TuneSpork

Chromatic tuner

Tune anything. Tell no one.

TuneSpork hears the note through your microphone and shows you how far off you are. The sound never leaves the device — there is no account to make, nothing measured, and nothing to upload.

Your audio never leaves your device

The arithmetic happens where the sound already is, and stops there.

  • Pitch detection runs on the device, in real time. Nothing is recorded and nothing is transmitted.
  • No account, no sign-in, no email address.
  • No analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers, no third-party SDKs.
  • The app makes no network requests of its own. The only connection it opens is Apple’s in-app purchase system, when you unlock Pro.

What it does

  • Chromatic, for any instrument or voice

Names whatever note it hears and shows how far off you are. No mode to choose and no string to select before you can play one. Flats instead of sharps, and haptic feedback, are each a switch away.

  • Works in airplane mode

There is no online feature to lose, so the app behaves identically in a rehearsal room, a basement and a plane. A connection is needed only for updates and for unlocking Pro, and both go through the App Store.

TuneSpork Pro

Everything below is part of TuneSpork Pro, unlocked inside the app. Chromatic tuning works without it.

  • Every instrument preset

Guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, viola, cello, mandolin and banjo, each with its own strings as targets.

  • Alternate tunings

Standard, Drop D, Open G, DADGAD, E♭ standard and more, plus a custom tuning for each instrument: one to twelve strings, any note from A0 to C8, saved on your device.

  • Custom reference pitch

Set A anywhere from 415 Hz to 465 Hz: baroque ensembles often tune to 415, and some orchestras sit at 442 or 443.

  • Fine mode

Cents shown to one decimal place.

  • Strobe display

The display piano tuners and detail-minded players are used to.

  • Transposition

For B♭ and E♭ instruments. It changes only the note name shown; the tuning itself is untouched.

  • Themes

Including a high-contrast Stage theme for dark venues.

Common questions

  • Why does it need the microphone?

To hear the note. That is the whole of it — the audio is analyzed as it arrives and discarded. It is never written to storage and never sent anywhere.

  • Does it work without an internet connection?

For tuning, always: the app makes no network requests of its own, so there is nothing to be offline from. A connection is needed only to update the app or to unlock Pro, and both go through the App Store.
